With a toddler and a 3.5 month old it has been a bit of a juggle but I’m excited to be one of three artists in this next exhibit.  Funnily enough, one of the artists happened to be my old room mate and performed in one of my CD releases years ago.  Back to business, here is the info.  If you are in Whistler, please do stop in…

UPCOMING EXHIBIT:

“Layers” Art Show
February 4th, 2013 – February 27th, 2013

From February 4 to 27, Scotia Creek Gallery at Millennium Place will showcase Layers, an art exhibit featuring the artistic process rather than the final product.

Artists Nasser Ghaderi, Sarah Northcott and Kedrick James use acrylic, photographic images and other forms of media to expose and hide aspects of their art. In the pieces, one can see that this process allowed the artists to observe their own personal growth and the background influences their final works reflected.

Nasser Ghaderi

Ghaderi is a self-taught artist and an established film producer. He was executive producer of the film Vegas: Based on a True Story, which was an official selection at the Venice Film Festival among others. Ghaderi uses a variety of tools and painting techniques including throwing, splashing, dripping, drizzling, trickling, and swooshing. He allows the process and immersion of creating, reflecting, and understanding to guide him as he manipulates the tools to create his vision.

Sarah Northcott

Northcott is self-taught with select courses from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, the Victoria College of Art and workshops from local and international artists. She uses spontaneous pouring, dripping and spraying of polymer gel over her acrylics to hide and accentuate exposed layers, while helping her discover what will ultimately be revealed. Northcott uses this technique to explore the complexity of boundaries.

Kedrick James

James uses the background and non-subjective elements of online photos in his work. By layering the accidental aspects of photography, the context of the photograph changes as elements become highly transparent while placed on top of others. Each image in this series is a composite of between 300 to 500 image fragments, taking months to compose. The images are then screen printed by hand using four-colour separation.

The Opening Reception will take place on Monday, February 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Millennium Place. It is free admission and there will be a cash bar and snacks.

Golden Spruce (16" x 40")

Silver Night Forest 38" x 44"

This painting I did for my friend Bryant and his new wife.
